Višnjan is well connected to the Croatian highway network via the so called "Istrian Y". If you come from the north you will get on the Y right after the Slowenian/Croatian border. After you pass the Mirna bridge take the first exit (labeled Višnjan) and you are there. Travelling by car is recommended for participants from Central, South, East and Southeast Europe.
Notice: Participants travelling via Italy will have just a few km of driving through Slovenia. Therefore we don't recommend using the highway between Italian/Slowenian border and Koper (vignette needed!) but using the free of charge normal road next to the highway! Follow the signs to Skofije, then Bertoki and then Koper. From there the normal free of charge road continues to the nearby Croatian border. The closest bus station is in Poreč, appr. 10km away. The closest train station are Pazin, Kanfanar, Pula and Rijeka.
There are several international airports nearby. The closest is Pula Airport (50km) in the south of Istria. Rijeka Airport and Trieste Airport (Italy) are appr. 100km away. Zagreb Airport, Ljubljana Airport (Slowenia) and Venice Airport (Italy) are appr. 200km away. These airports connect to Višnjan via bus lines (Poreč bus station) or via boat (from Venice).
Some carriers that fly to Pula Airport: Croatia Airlines, Ryanair, Germanwings, Norwegian. There are dozens of airlines that fly to the other airports mentioned above.
Venezia lines connects Venice with Poreč. Jadrolinija connects Bari (Italy) and Ancona (Italy) to Rijeka.
Croatia is not yet part of the EU but has candidate status. Citizens of many countries can enter Croatia without visa, just with personal ID card or passport. We recommend however that you do check on the page of the Croatian Ministry of Foreign Affairs that you really don't need a visa. Click here.
